Dutch supermarket Jumbo stops selling games of chance

Jumbo, a Dutch supermarket, stops selling games of chance. After receiving numerous threats, Jumbo Clinckhoeff and Television Job have stopped selling gambling games. This situation is separate from the recent arrest of Jumbo owner Van Eerd.

Stop selling at 15 september

Due to numerous threats towards staff, the Jumbos in both Television Job and De Clinckhoeff shopping centre stopped selling games of chance on 15 September. Two branches of Jumbo supermarket in IJsselstein - one in the shopping centre and one at the Televisionbaan - also stopped selling these games on that day.

Currently, two Jumbo markets in Utrecht's IJsselstein no longer sell lottery tickets. Instead, customers can buy scratch cards, state tickets and TOTO tickets at most Jumbo outlets. Adventurers who want to take a risk can buy tickets at these branches.

Family-owned Jumbo recently removed all games of chance from their shops. Scratch cards were especially popular in their shops and they have since been replaced with plants and signs explaining why they are not available. Last Wednesday, the police were called because of a hostile customer at the shop. Presumably due to this incident, the Jumbos decided to stop selling and collecting all games of chance.
