The Dutch Ministry of Finance has stated that the recent spike in tax revenue is due to online gambling being made legal in the country. The Central Bureau of Statistics reports that tax revenue from gambling rose to more than $165 million in the first four months of 2018.
Players don't pay tax but online casinos do
The Department of Finance - a part of the government - states that providers of online games of chance handle the tax payments for players. When players win something through an official game, they do not have to pay tax on the prize.
Currently, the Gaming Authority grants licences to companies to offer online games of chance. Since 1 October 2021, CBS has not been able to determine how much of the total tax revenue comes from online gambling.
