The Powerball grand prize ever was $2.04 billion, which was claimed by a single ticket. The ticket was sold at Joe's Service Center in Altadena, California, which is located in Los Angeles County. It was sold by the California Lottery. A California resident with a Powerball ticket worth USD 2 billion won the jackpot after more than three months without anyone hitting the top prize.
On Tuesday morning, the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee drew winning numbers that included 10, 33, 41, 47 and 56 white balls, and the red Powerball number 10. A jackpot ticket was sold at Joe's Service Center in Altadena, northeast of Los Angeles. They never responded to a voicemail left for them at the location.
Biggest lottery jackpot ever
In 2016, three Powerball ticket holders won the US$1.586 billion jackpot; the next largest jackpot ever was won by the jackpot draw for $722,702,270. The Multi-State Lottery Association explained that a lottery participant experienced issues with sales processing Monday night; consequently, the scheduled drawing was delayed until the following day.
On Monday morning, the jackpot was estimated at $1.9 billion. However, the prize was increased to $2.04 billion — making it the highest announced jackpot in history — the next morning after updated calculations were performed.
The current USD 20 million jackpot is larger than any previous payout by over 400 million dollars. No one has won this jackpot since Aug. 3, 2017; it started at USD 20 million and subsequently grew to over USD 300 million. As of November 2017, only four other jackpots have topped USD 1 billion; none of these were close to the current payout.
Powerball draw delayed
Monday night's drawing difficulties were explained by the lack of data processing capabilities of one lottery's participants. Before the winning numbers are announced, all 48 powerball lotteries must submit their sales and play data to the Multi-State Lottery Association. After this initial mass submission, the drawing can occur," the Mslottery Association said in a statement.
