Gambling advertisements will no longer be displayed in bus shelters or advertising columns in Tilburg from 2023 onwards. The municipality finds the advertisements to gamble at companies like Toto and Betcity undesirable because many people get into debt. The municipality cannot prohibit gambling, but it can prohibit outdoor advertising.

The gambling advertisements cannot be refused acutely, but the new contract with the operator of the bus stop shelters contains the new rules. The contract will be publicly tendered and will take effect in 2023.

The market for online gambling has just opened up, but the municipality is already seeing an increase in the number of people getting into debt due to online gambling.
