Dutch gaming authority selects 25 illegal gaming websites for further investigation

The Dutch games of chance authority (Ksa) has selected 25 websites for further investigation. If it is possible to take part in a game of chance on these websites from the Netherlands, sanctions will follow. Promoters of these games of chance, such as payment service providers and advertisers, can also be tackled. The Ksa is also alert to specific offers that could draw Dutch players away from legal to illegal providers, for example by offering games that are prohibited for legal providers under Dutch law.

Since 1 November, the online enforcement policy of the Ksa has been changed and the fines have been significantly increased. The selection of the 25 websites is a first step in the implementation of this policy. The reason for the new policy is that since 1 October, the amended Games of Chance Act has made it possible to offer games of chance legally via the Internet with a licence. With legal providers, gambling participants can play in a safe environment, where there is reliable gaming and sufficient attention to gambling addiction. An objective of the law is to 'channel' players from illegal to legal providers.
