Holland Casino and Toto, companies with the Dutch state as shareholder, spent millions on gambling advertisements in the past two months. Since online gambling became legal this autumn, the number of advertisements for gambling games on television and online has doubled. A majority in the Lower House said last week that they wanted to curb the wave of unfocused advertising for online gambling. The Dutch state casino's only spent there money on Techgiants like Google and Facebook who pay no tax. Affiliates or local the dont invest.
Research in October and November revealed more than 365,000 gambling advertisements on television and the Internet. In the same period last year there were 165,000.
Holland Casino spent an estimated 6.5 million euros on gambling advertisements in the past two months. Toto spent almost 4.5 million euros on it. In total, the eleven online casinos in the Netherlands spent more than 25 million euros on gambling advertisements in October and November.
