The gaming tax will increase by 0.3% to a rate of 29.3%. This news was brought out this morning by The Telegraph. The reason for the increase has to do with the line that went through the increased road tax for vans owned by entrepreneurs.
Consequences for casino and players
The Remote Gaming Act shifted the fiscal responsibility from the Dutch player to online casinos. This law effectively lowered the commissions and RTPs for casinos as the tax obligation was transferred to them. As a result, players pay higher taxes and receive smaller bonuses as a result.
The government needs to keep filling the tax pot and will start recovering the difference from casinos and smokers. In April 2023, the excise tax will be increased by three euros, plus the 0.15 euro increase that is now coming on top of that. The gaming tax increase comes from the hand of State Secretary for Taxation and Revenue Marnix van Rij.
